Laughter

Jimmy Petruzzi
“Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh”

George Bernard Shaw

Have you ever been on a night out, or had a meal with family and friends, gone to watch a show or a film and just laughed so much. One of the best tonics is laughter, and having a good laugh is free. So much money is spent by so many people on products to make they feel better. People spend money on cosmetic surgery, intoxicate their bodies with various medication, take illegal substances, we live in are day and age were many people are looking for a quick fix to feel better.

One of the best resources we have is our sense of humour

Laughter makes you feel good. The good feeling that you get when you laugh remains with you even after the laughter subsides. Humour helps you keep a positive, optimistic outlook through difficult situations, disappointments, and loss. Humour and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress. Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use.

If you having already watched the film a great film to watch is Patch Adams staring Robin Williams witch portrays the life of Patch Adams who would dress up as a clown, entertaining seriously ill patients, with a positive effect. Adams ability to make people laugh has lifted the spirits of seriously ill patients around the world.

You might be going through a hard time in your life or you might be thinking it isn’t always easy to laugh with todays fast pace modern day society. Though here are some tips and exercises you can do which can assist you in a more positive out look in life and immediately start to feel better.

Smile:

  • Get into the habit of smiling and sharing a smile with the people around you,
  • A simple smile can light up a room

Some of the things we can often take for granted, Food, clothes, access to technology, family, friends, being alive

Spending time with people who enjoy have a laugh is infectious, and makes you feel better

Integrate humour into you conversations at work, with your friends, family:

Some of the best leaders, teachers, coaches, and influential people are people who use humour to get a point across, or ease tension, or feelings of any nerves. The effects of a good ice breaker, the positive effects of sharing a joke, seeing the funny side of life is a great way to build rapport and make people feel at ease.

Look at the bright side of life

Attempt to laugh at challenging situations.

Look for the humour in a bad situation; look for something positive to come out of something negative.

Lighten- up

Let go of the things that you can’t control and focus on your life.

Keep things in perspective

Some of the things we worry about on the big scale of things, no point getting worked up or being to upset about things that don’t really matter of the big scale of things.

Sometimes it’s worth drawing on past challenges and realising everything is temporary good or bad, with a positive outlook good will come out of every situation. It’s not always easy to laugh, however amongst the face of adversity being able to dust yourself off, put a smile on your face, role the sleeves up and having a good laugh is often the best way forward.
